Service Description

Wolf and Whippet have built a training class that is run in small groups of up to 4 dogs for 6 weeks, suitable for different ages, breeds and sizes of dogs. We also welcome rescue dogs to these classes where we can adapt teaching new skills and offer support. There is a 1 week gap in the middle of the course, to practice and send us videos, before we continue upskilling and learning. But please bear this in mind when booking with us. Included in the price is a copy of our puppy and dog training book and ongoing support via a private WhatsApp group. We recommend that your rescue dog is fully settled in your home and new environment for at least 3+ months, giving your rescue dog the opportunity to decompress and built a relationship with you. Training can always wait, instead focus on building trust, learning your dogs body language and positive associations. 1-2-1 training support often suits more sensitive and rescue dogs. Group class environments can often be overwhelming, over arousing for many dogs, if your dog is more sensitive/reactive please email us to discuss suitability. In class, we teach many behaviours using shaping, a process whereby you slowly teach your dog a new behaviour by marking and rewarding each small step. This method reduces frustration during learning, plus effective and fun to watch your dog learn and think for themselves. Week 1 • Introduction to the course and discussion of individual group needs. • Using a Clicker/Marker Word. • Building Engagement and value to be with you. • Settling around distraction. Week 2 • Recall Skills. • Teaching a Middle. • Polite Greetings around People and Dogs. • Begin to practice around each other at distance. Week 3 • Teaching a Stay around distraction. • Engagement and Disengagement practice. • Building recall skills, adding distance. • Practice Middle. 1 Week Gap for Practice and Feedback! Week 4 • Welcome back and show me the skills! • Stay Cue: Build distance, duration and distraction. • Loose lead Walking: the foundations and how we use engagement. • Teaching a Send to Place. Week 5 • Loose Lead skills practice around each other. • Introduction to Whistle Training. • Continue our Send to Place: adding a cue. • Training a Stop cue. Week 6 • Continue training a Stop Cue. • Our last week is led by you and your dogs. Covering skills you would like further support with. We also set weekly challenges to keep you and dog motivated and enjoying training in partnership together.
